Privacy Policy

Youmi Lens is an iPad app that helps students record lectures, view live captions, take notes, and generate bilingual transcripts and summaries. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how you can manage your data.

1. Who we are

Youmi Lens is operated by the Youmi Lens team. Privacy questions can be sent to youmilens@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

When you create an account and use the app, we may collect:

• Account information — your email address and the username you choose.
• Lecture content you create — audio recordings of lectures, live caption / transcript text, English and Chinese summaries generated from your audio, your typed and handwritten notes, course and lecture titles, and the timestamps you mark as important during a recording.
• Usage and quota data — the number of lectures you record, total minutes used, and your current plan or beta tier. We use this to enforce per-plan limits and to show your usage in Settings → Plan.
• Diagnostic information — basic, non-identifying app and device diagnostics (for example, error logs and performance counters) we may collect to debug issues. We do not use diagnostics for advertising.

3. How we use your information

We use the information above to:

• create your account, sign you in, and verify the email address you provide;
• store the lectures, notes, transcripts, and summaries you create so you can return to them;
• process recorded audio into transcripts and summaries through the providers listed below;
• enforce your plan’s limits (recordings per day, minutes per recording);
• diagnose problems and improve the app.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Third-party services

To run the app we rely on a small set of service providers. Your information may be processed by them under their own terms and privacy policies:

• Supabase — authentication, database, and audio file storage.
• Railway — backend hosting.
• Deepgram — live English speech-to-text.
• DashScope / Qwen — transcription, translation, and English / Chinese summary generation for recorded lectures.
• Brevo (and, where applicable, Supabase’s built-in SMTP) — sending the verification-code email used during signup.

We share with these providers only what they need to perform the function above — for example, lecture audio for transcription, transcript text for summarization, or your email and username for the verification email.

5. Data storage and security

Your account content is stored on the backend services listed above. Each lecture, note, transcript, and summary is associated with your account. Our backend uses standard server-side credentials and row-level security so that one account’s data is not visible to other accounts.

Connections between the app and the backend use HTTPS / WSS. We do not currently provide end-to-end encryption — staff with appropriate administrative access could view stored content for legitimate support and debugging purposes.

We take reasonable steps to protect your data, but no system is perfectly secure. Please choose a strong password and keep your sign-in email safe.

6. Data retention and deletion

We retain your account content for as long as your account exists. You can manage your data in two ways:

• Locally on the device. Settings → “Clear Local Data” removes the locally cached copy of your courses and lectures from this iPad. It does not delete data on our servers.
• From our servers. To delete your account and the lectures, transcripts, summaries, and notes associated with it, email youmilens@gmail.com from the email address on the account and ask us to delete it. After we confirm the request we will remove your account data from our servers within 30 days. Some routine backups and audit logs may be retained for a limited additional period before being purged.

You can also email us to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or to ask us to correct it.

7. Children

Youmi Lens is intended for students aged 13 and older (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has created an account without consent, contact us and we will remove the account.

8. International users

We may store and process your data on servers located outside your country. By using the app you understand that your information may be transferred and processed in those countries.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be reflected in the app or by email where appropriate.
